Marisa Shaw, MEd, CCC-Q, LCT-C

Clinical Counsellor

My name is Marisa and I am excited to be part of the team at Northside Counselling. I have a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and am a Licensed Counselling Therapist Candidate. I am able to support individuals experiencing a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, life transitions, and more. I have four years of experience in crisis intervention prior to becoming a counsellor, which has given me a strong foundation for my counselling practice. My counselling approach is primarily person-centered with influences from strengths-based approaches, psychodynamic approaches, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and the interpersonal process approach. This means that I focus primarily on building a comfortable and safe relationship with my clients and find ways to work through concerns while empowering the client. In my personal time I enjoy getting outside, reading, and crafting. I love to learn and am always interested in trying something new. I seek to support clients in their journey to growth, insight, and an increased sense of wellbeing. Counselling is a space for the client to decide what they wish to cover and at what pace. I work collaboratively with clients to come up with ways to address their concerns. It can be a big step for many to decide to pursue counselling and I want to help make the experience as comfortable as possible.
